1. What Are Taxes and Service Charges?
In TaoRocket, taxes include all fiscal levies applied to your sales. Service charges are non-fiscal taxes, often added as fees (e.g., tips, gratuities) and identified as such for easy management.

2. How to Add or Edit Taxes and Service Charges
To configure taxes and service charges:
- Navigate to System Settings > Taxes.
- Click New tax to add or select an existing tax to edit.
- Enter the Name and Tax rate (percentage).
- Choose if the tax is Included in the price or Added on top.
- Use the Option dropdown to specify whether to apply the tax to:
- Only new items,
- Only existing items,
- All items (both new and existing),
- Or leave it empty for no operations.
- Mark Fiscal tax if it is a fiscal levy. Leave unchecked for service charges (non-fiscal).
- Assign the tax or service charge to one or more stores.
3. What Do the Options Mean?
- Included in the price means the tax is already embedded in the product price.
- Excluded from the price means the tax will be added on top during checkout.
- The Option field lets you control how the tax is applied, so you can introduce new taxes smoothly without affecting historical data.
4. Managing Your Taxes and Service Charges
You can:
- Duplicate existing taxes to create similar ones quickly.
- Delete taxes that are no longer needed (after ensuring they are not assigned to any items).
- Assign different taxes to different stores to fit local regulations.
5. Keep Your Tax Settings Updated
Tax laws and service charge policies can change. Regularly review and update your tax settings in TaoRocket to stay compliant and avoid surprises during checkout.
